Football: Villanova Hosts Maine As Search For Offense Continues
VILLANOVA, Pa. (CBS) - The struggles continue on the Main Line: Villanova sits at 1-7 on the season as they get ready to host Maine on Saturday.
The Wildcats dropped their fourth straight last weekend, losing to Old Dominion, 37-14 (see related story). That game continued a season-long offensive struggle for Villanova; they turned the ball over four times, and for the seventh time in eight games they scored under 20 points.
Wildcats head coach Andy Talley says turnovers have been a constant problem this season.
"Most of our turnovers have been from the quarterback position -- that's where we have to square things up," he says. "We just haven't had a lot of continuity in the quarterback spot. And I'm still hoping, with three games to go, that we'll develop some continuity there and be able to score some points."

Redshirt freshman Dustin Thomas and true freshman Chris Polony both played significant snaps at quarterback last week against the Monarchs. This week it looks like the Wildcats will give Polony the start against a Black Bears team that, along with Towson, has surprised the CAA with a 6-1 overall record and a perfect 4-0 conference mark.
The Black Bears have also impressed Talley.
"They're big , fast, strong," he tells KYW Newsradio. "I mean, they look like a team that can win a conference championship."
And why does he think the Black Bears have been so successful?
"They have a real good quarterback (senior Warren Smith), and he's done a nice job for them. We have to make sure we keep him in check. They have a nice balance, they run the ball well, they throw the ball well. I think in this game we're going to have to score some points -- that's what we are going to have to do to stay in the game."
Kickoff on the Main Line is set for 3:30pm on Saturday.
