Food Truck Review: No. 39
WHIRLY PIG
I wanted to love it, of course, as soon as I saw the giant pink pig smiling at me from the side of the truck and the sign proclaiming it to be home to "artisanal pork-mongers." Hell, I'm a pork-monger from way back. Ran a bacon contest last year, you may remember.
So we ordered up the wild boar sandwich for $12 and expected to have a fine afternoon. It sure looked like a beauty – a slow-roasted delight, sitting there all proud on a brioche roll.
And the nice lady behind the counter was so charming we were ready to put this puppy in the May 14th Food Truck Frenzy finals.
And then we tasted it. Meh. It was a little gamy, as wild boar should be. But it was also saltier than it should have been and way too dry. Maybe we caught them on a bad day. But you only get one chance in this contest. And on this day, Whirly Pig did not deliver.
