'Food Fight' Helps the Hungry

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Great Food Fight is over and area high schools have collected 64 tons of food to help Philabundance feed the region's hungry. 

Anne Judge of Shire Pharmaceuticals handed three students from Germantown Friends School a check for $10,000 for raising almost seven tons, or over 13,000 pounds of food for Philabundance, and the most per student, over 38 pounds each.

Senior Ashley Frank says, "We have don't have cheerleaders, we don't have football teams, but I think this was a way to show our school spirit and show the rest of Philadelphia what we do."

Penncrest High school in Media raised the most food over-all, nearly 15 tons or over 22,000 pounds of food, and received a $5,000.

The inaugural Great Food Fight was expected to net about 25 tons of food.  The 18 high schools raised 200 percent more.
