Food Bank Of Delaware Gives To Needy Families
NEWARK, Del. (CBS) -- Many people did their Thanksgiving Day shopping in stores; but others took to the parking lot of the UAW Local 1183 in Newark, Delaware.
The Food Bank of Delaware handed out close to 300 turkeys and other holiday foods to families in need. According to workers with the Food Bank, that need is greater this year compared to 2009.
CBS3 spoke to a woman named Helen. She didn't want to give her last name.
"It's embarrassing," said Helen. "None of my neighbors know I'm here because it's none of their business."
Helen said her family had recently fallen on hard times. She said her husband's pension from Chrysler had been decreased and due to a recent shoulder operation that left her partially disabled, she can no longer work.
"If I didn't have to be here, I wouldn't," she said.
