Folks Get Early Start On Holiday Travel

MAYS LANDING, N.J. (CBS) - Traffic along the Atlantic City Expressway has been building all day, and Thursday morning, the early bird got the worm -- or at least a much easier drive:
Greg Sr.and Greg Jr. were on the road with the family, stopping off at the Farley Service Plaza on their way to Atlantic City from Allentown for Fourth of July weekend. They say they got out early to avoid traffic:
"About 4 o'clock in the morning, usually takes about three hours we made here in about an hour and a half."
Other travelers who got an early start tell KYW Newsradio they too were able to avoid traffic – especially through Philadelphia:
"I gotta go all the way down the Schuylkill and no, that's not going to happen later on today," this man said. "Matter of fact, my son's leaving about 4:00 to come down, I told him, 'Be ready for a long trip'."
One thing to remember, if you are headed to the shore, Arthur has strengthened to a hurricane as it moves towards the Carolina Coast. It's expected to pass New Jersey well off-shore, but beach patrols are warning of strong surf and rip-currents on Friday.
