Flyers Welcome Lightning To The Center

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Flyers have had a wonderful March so far.

Peter Laviolette's squad is 10-2-1 this month as they get ready to host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night.

Last time out, the Flyers beat Montreal on Saturday 4-1 and that victory clinched a playoff berth for the Flyers.  But with seven regular season games remaining, the Flyers postseason positioning is very much up in the air.

They currently sit 5th in the Eastern Conference, but they are just four points behind the Penguins for 4th place and home ice in the first round and they are just five points behind the New York Rangers who sit atop the conference with 101 points.

It's been a frustrating season for the Lightning as they have just 75 points heading into tonight.  That leaves them in 11th place in the East and nine points out of the 8th and final playoff spot in the conference.

The Flyers have struggled with the Lightning this season.  They've dropped two of the three match-ups between the two teams - including a 2-1 overtime decision.  However, all three of those games came in the season's first three months and the two teams haven't met since December 27th.

KYW's Matt Leon spoke with Lightning television broadcaster - and former Flyer player and broadcaster - Bobby "The Chief" Taylor about tonight's game.
