Flyers Trade Leighton For Goalie Steve Mason
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Flyers have traded backup goalie Michael Leighton and a 2015 third round pick to the Columbus Blue Jackets for goalie Steve Mason.
Mason won the 2009 Calder Trophy for the NHL's Rookie Of The Year, but has struggled recently. He's 3-6 on the season, with a goals against average of 2.99. He was 16-26 in 2011-12, with a goals against average of 3.39.
"I'm extremely excited for it. I'm really looking forward to a fresh opportunity, going to a great organization with some players that I have some history with at the World Juniors and just really looking forward to meeting the new guys and starting off fresh," said Mason in an interview on TSN.
Leighton, 31 years old, has appeared in only one game for the Flyers this season.
