Flyers Trade For Defenseman Streit
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Flyers have traded a fourth round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft along with prospect Shane Harper to the Islanders for defenseman Mark Streit.
Streit, 35 years-old, is set to become an unrestrcited free-agent, but the trade gives the Flyers exclusive rights to negotiate with Streit before he officially becomes a free-agent.
"Mark is a player we would have had interest in on July 5th," said Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren in a statement. "We now have exclusive negotiating rights and we are hopeful that we can get an agreement in place prior to him becoming an unrestricted free agent."
Streit had six goals and 21 assists during the 2013 season for the Islanders. Known as an offensive oriented defenseman, Streit has 65 goals and 223 assists in 491 career games.
