Flyers, Sixers Team Up With Red Cross For Blood Drive
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Philadelphia Flyers and the Sixers are teaming up with the American Red Cross to host a life-saving blood drive on Saturday.
The event is taking place at the Wells Fargo Center at 3601 S Broad Street from 5:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. And while all blood types are needed, the Red Cross says there is a particular need for people with "negative" blood types—meaning O-negative, A-negative and B-negative.
To donate, volunteers must be 17 years old (or 16 with parental permission) and meet weight and height requirements (110 lbs or more, depending on their height). Participants must be in good health and be eligible to donate blood. A Red Cross blood donor card or other identification must be provided.
And sports fan donors won't go home empty handed: All participants in the blood drive will have their choice of a Danny Briere jersey-style t-shirt or a 76ers t-shirt, and one lucky person will receive the "Ultimate Flyers Fan Experience," which includes two Club Box tickets to an upcoming home game and the chance to meet Danny Briere. Another donor will win the "Ultimate 76ers Experience"—two Club Box tickets to an upcoming home game and the chance to meet star point guard Jrue Holiday. Finally, a lucky fan donor will be randomly selected to win two tickets to the Red Cross' 2012 Red Ball on March 10th, 2012.
