Flyers Open 2014-15 Season In Boston

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- The 2014-15 NHL season gets underway for the Flyers tonight as they visit the Boston Bruins.

Philadelphia went 42-30-10 last season, good for 94 points. They finished third in the Metropolitan Division and qualified for the playoffs, losing in seven games in the first-round to the New York Rangers.

Boston finished last season with 117 points, the top total in all the NHL. In the playoffs, they advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals, losing in seven games to Montreal.

The Flyers were relatively quiet in the offseason. One move of note was dealing forward Scott Hartnell to Columbus for forward R.J. Umberger.

In the preseason, the Flyers went 3-3-2, wrapping things up with a 3-2 shootout loss to Washington on Thursday.

On the injury front, forward Wayne Simmonds has been battling a foot injury, but he will be ready to play tonight.

Steve Mason will start in net for Philadelphia., who went 0-2-1 against the Bruins last season.
