Flyers Mascot Surprises 7-Year-Old Super Fan Who Has Gritty-Themed Prosthetic Legs
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia Flyers mascot Gritty surprised a 7-year-old super fan who was getting Gritty-themed prosthetic legs on Tuesday morning. Caiden O'Rourke, of Abington, is a patient at Shriners Hospital for Children in Philadelphia after he was born with a rare orthopedic condition.
"Caiden was born with -- when he was born he didn't have a full right leg and his right hand and left leg were not formed fully," his mother Katie O'Rourke said.
She also says they've always allowed him to customize his prosthetics.
"We wanted him to be proud of them so we let him go to the store and this time it was gritty," she said.
When Caiden told the hospital staff the theme he wanted, they worked their magic and got the Philadelphia Flyers mascot to deliver the Gritty-themed prosthetic leg.
"He's my favorite mascot because he's crazy and he's a daredevil," Caiden said.
He also got a Flyers jersey with his name on it.
"He's strong he's probably the strongest 8-year-old you will ever meet he's always smiling he's always the life of the party and he doesn't let anything hold him back," his mother said.
The surprise came a week before Caiden's 8th birthday.
