Flyers Look To Get On Track Vs. Vancouver
By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Flyers will look to turn things around on Tuesday night as they welcome the Vancouver Canucks to the Center.
It has been a real rough start to the 2013-14 season for the Flyers. They have already endured a head coaching change and they sit at 1-5. They have scored just eight goals this season (one more than NHL leader Tomas Hertl of San Jose) and only one player, Brayden Schenn, has more than one goal (2). The power play has been almost non-existent here in the early going, as the Flyers are just 2 for 27 with the man advantage (7.4%).
One bright spot amid the struggles has been the play of goalkeeper Steve Mason, who is slated to start against the Canucks. This will be his fifth start of the season. He is 1-3 in the first four, but he has a fine 2.03 GAA and an outstanding .935 save percentage.
Oh, and the Flyers are also shorthanded. In this game they will be without injured forwards Scott Hartnell and Vincent Lecavalier.
Vancouver comes to town with a record of 3-3. They have dropped their last two games. This game with the Flyers will be the opener of a seven-game road-trip.
And if you are thinking that is seems like it has been awhile since the Flyers played the Canucks, you would be right. This will be their first meeting since October 12th, 2011. Flyers won that game 5-4 at the Center.
