Flyers Look To Continue Incredible Success Against Islanders

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- To say that the trends for tonight's Flyers-Islanders game favor Peter Laviolette's squad would be an understatement.

The Flyers have won 26 of the last 28 meetings between the two teams.  The Flyers have beaten the Islanders 13 straight times at the Wells Fargo Center -- outscoring them 54-24 in the process.

In addition, the Flyers have won three straight games at home against various teams, and they are starting Sergei Bobrovsky in net tonight.  All he has done in his career against the Isles is go 7-0-0, with a 1.86 goals-against average.

But here is where you insert the cliché about how anything can happen and you don't play games on paper.

The Islanders are improving, and they are coming off a shutout win over the Washington Capitals on Tuesday.

And the Flyers need these two points to keep pace in the Atlantic Division with the frontrunning New York Rangers; Philadelphia is currently four points back.

KYW's Matt Leon spoke with Butch Goring -- the former Islanders star and their current television color analyst on MSG -- about this matchup and how much the Flyers' success against the Islanders plays on the current team's minds.
