Flyers Host An Explosive Lightning Squad Tonight

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- The Flyers are playing good hockey as they welcome a talented Tampa Bay Lightning into the Center tonight.

Philadelphia has gone 3-0-2 in its last five games. Last time out on Saturday they smacked Carolina at the Center, 5-1. This surge has improved the Flyers record to 11-13-5. With 27 points they are sixth in the eight-team Metropolitan Division, but just six points behind third-place Washington.

Tampa Bay is tied for first place (with Detroit) in the Atlantic Division with 41 points. They are as explosive an offensive team as there is in the NHL. They have scored a league high 107 goals and enjoy a +21 goal differential. They are led by forward Steven Stamkos who is tied for third in the NHL with 17 goals and tied for fifth in points with 34.

The Flyers continue to be paced by forward Jakub Voracek who is tied for second in the NHL with 37 points (11 goals, 26 assists).

The Flyers should be the fresher team tonight as the Lightning played last night, losing in Pittsburgh, 4-2.

This will be the second of three meetings between these two teams this season. The Lightning won the first on their home ice, 4-3, back on October 30th.

KYW's Matt Leon spoke with former Flyers goalie and current Comcast Sportsnet studio analyst Brian Boucher about the Flyers recent improved play and tonight's match-up.
