Flyers Get Ready For Abbreviated Training Camp

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Flyers held another round of workouts on their own, Friday in Voorhees as their post-lockout shortened season draws closer.
Training camp is expected to begin on Sunday, and players such as Defenseman Kimmo Timonen knows there will be a lot of work to do in a short period of time. "There are so many things you have to cover in a week," said Timonen. "There's power play and penalty killing and the system. I'm sure we're going to be busy next week, but every day matters."
Most of the Flyers were back in the area after the end of the lockout. Others, such as forward Wayne Simmonds, arrived late this week. "I think it's just nice to get back in that team atmosphere," Simmonds said. "We're comfortable and we're excited. Personally, I can't wait."
Simmonds is one of several Flyers who played overseas during the lockout. Others such as Sean Couturier played with the Phantoms in the AHL.
"I feel like I'm in pretty good game shape," said Couturier. "I think I can use that as an advantage to start the season in the right way."
The NHL schedule will likely be released on Saturday, but sources say the Flyers will open at home against Pittsburgh on January 19th, then travel to Buffalo to play the Sabres the following day.
