Flyers: Briere Putting Together Special Season

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Flyers forward Danny Briere didn't let an All-Star snub bother him on Tuesday night as he netted a goal and added three assists in the Flyers' 5-2 win in Buffalo.

The Sabres went toe-to-toe with the Flyers for the first 40 minutes before the Orange and Black took over in the third period (see game story).

Briere called in to KYW Newsradio on Wednesday to say that as the defending conference champions and the top team in the Eastern Conference so far this season, the Flyers are getting use to playing with a bull's eye on their sweaters.

"It doesn't surprise me that teams are ready for us and playing well," Briere said. "But at the same time it's a good thing -- we want that. We want to face the best that we can get from any opponent. It's going to make us a better team in the end."

The Flyers haven't missed a beat here this season after their run to the Stanley Cup Finals a season ago, and Briere says this season's success has its roots in that postseason run.

"I think we built a lot of chemistry last year and a lot of confidence in the playoffs," he recalls. "That definitely made us a better team, because we look around the room now and we know that the guy sitting beside us is a warrior and we can rely on him when things will get tough."

Briere is second among the Flyers in scoring and leads the squad with 22 goals. That wasn't enough, however, to earn him an All-Star slot -- and in fact only forward Claude Giroux was selected from the Flyers' conference-leading roster.

However, Briere takes it all in stride.

"You know, it's a little disappointing knowing we only have one going to the All-Star Game, especially with leading the East and the way a lot of guys have been playing," he told KYW Newsradio. "But it's not our goal -- it's not such a big deal. Actually, it might be a good thing for the team that more guys get to rest and get ready for the stretch."

Briere and the Flyers will visit Boston on Thursday night as they continue their four-game road trip.
