Florists Scramble To Come Up With Valentine's Delivery Plans Ahead Of Snow
By Michelle Durham
MERION STATION, Pa. (CBS) - Mother Nature has plans for us on Thursday that include the potential for feet of snow, not to mention an ice build-up.
How are area florists preparing to fulfill the hundreds of orders they have on one of their busiest days of the year?
Owner of Long Stem's Florist in Merion Station Keith Bell says coping with this curve ball takes strategy.
"And the startegy is calling everyone I know that has four wheel drive vehicles which we have been doing," he said. "I rounded up a bunch of guys that could actually deliver the packages with this storm coming."
Delivering the flowers is just one thing to consider on top of everything else.
"The fun part is making the flowers, getting them all together but getting them to where they need to go -- that is the tricky part when there is snow," he said.
Bell says customers have been very accomodating and accepting deliveries on Wednesday. The other good news Bell says is that the temperatures will be above 40 degrees, so they can leave flowers on people's doorsteps, which he says is helpful.
