Flood Cleanup Underway Across Delaware Valley
WHITPAIN Twp., Pa. (CBS) -- The daunting task of cleaning up after the storm is now underway for many residents in the Delaware Valley.
By Thursday evening, it was clear the devastation overwhelmed some more than others.
Yvette Lonon is convinced the stress and trauma from the day proved to be too much for her Goddaughter. The young woman suffered an anxiety attack and was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.
Indeed, it was a tough day for the Lonons. Mother Nature spared nothing in the basement of their Whitpain Township home leaving behind nothing but a muddy mess.
Lonon said, "My kids' Christmas gifts are gone, documents, pictures of my mother, they're all gone."
She and her neighbors woke up to rushing waters flooding streets and sweeping away cars. Area businesses also took a beating. The rushing waters even took out an entire wall of a warehouse. The situation got so dire, dozens of residents in Whitpain and Ambler were rescued from their homes and taken to a nearby shelter.
Further north in Warrington, Bucks County, the swollen Neshaminy Creek buried everything in its path including mailboxes, trash bins and more cars.
Back in Whitpain Township, while cleanup continues for most, Lonon admits she is fed up.
"I can't take this. I can't," Lonon said.
Lonon says this was at least the fifth time her home was flooded in her seventeen years on Maple Avenue. Where she'll go she doesn't know. But after this latest round, for her children's safety, she is now seriously considering moving.
