Five People Injured In Ambulance Crash In Olney

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Five people were injured in a crash involving an ambulance and a car in the Olney section of the city Sunday morning.
Fire officials say the crash happened around 9:30 a.m. along the 2000 block of West Olney Avenue across the street from LaSalle University.
Police say the Lifestar ambulance was headed east on Olney Avenue with lights and sirens as it approached a red light. As it was crossing the intersection, it collided with a Mercury Sable that was traveling north on 20th Street and had the green light. The collision caused the ambulance, which was carrying an elderly patient, to flip on its side. The Mercury then hit a nearby Dodge Durango which was stopped at the red light on Olney Avenue.
The 35-year-old driver of the ambulance, a 22-year-old passenger and the 80-year-old patient were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The 80-year-old male driver of the Mercury and the 41-year-old female driver of the Dodge were also taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. No charges have been filed at this time. The investigation continues.
