First Lady In Town To Rally Supporters
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - First lady Michelle Obama has joined her husband's frenetic pace on the campaign trail in the run-up to tomorrow's elections with appearances all over the place, including Philadelphia. She'll be welcomed this evening on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.
The first lady, the self-described "mom in chief" whose popularity remains high even as her husband's wanes, has mostly stayed out of the political fray since Mr. Obama took office.
Now she's back on the campaign trail, trying to reinvigorate dispirited Democratic voters. She will be stumping for Democratic candidate for governor Dan Onorato and US Senate candidate Joe Sestak.
Philadelphia-based Democratic analyst Larry Ceisler expects the first lady to make a positive case for the Obama administration's achievements over the last year and a half:
"The first lady has the ability of delivering a potent political message without having the baggage of an unpopular policy."
Michelle Obama's appearance at the University of Pennsylvania will be at the Perelman Quadrangle, at 34th and Spruce Streets. The doors open at 5:30 PM with the program starting at 7 PM.
