First Ever Farm To School Day in Upper Moreland
HATBORO, Pa. (CBS) -- The first ever Farm To School day was held at Upper Moreland Primary School.
"We brought in our local Apple farmer, he gave the first-graders a presentation on the history of apples, the anatomy, how they grow," said Melissa Froehlich, Food Service Director for the school district.
"School lunches are not what they used to be whatsoever. The healthy hunger free kids act that came through the government and the USDA has really boosted all the food that we serve. We have whole-grain everything, fresh fruits and vegetables every day," she said.
And Froehlich says they even have a garden at the school that they incorporate into their curriculum.
"It's not required to have Farm To School or gardens in the school, we just do it because we think it's important and the kids love it."
