Firefighters Hospitalized After Tractor-Trailer Crashes Into Truck On I-95 SB
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Five firefighters were hurt in an accident involving a tractor-trailer and a Philadelphia fire truck on I-95.
Three of the firefighters have since been released. The other two are in stable condition.
The crash also turned a stretch of the interstate into a parking lot for hours.
The firetruck was on I-95 South approaching Columbus Boulevard as a buffer between the accident and traffic, authorities say, when it was hit by a tractor trailer under the Chestnut Street overpass.
It was around 3:30 in the morning and authorities say five firefighters were hurt, taken to the hospital and listed in stable condition.
The accident put the brakes on cars going south on 95. The drivers, with no where to go, had to kill time, about three hours.
"I shut my car off a little while ago and turn it on every so often just to charge up the phone and keep me sane I guess."
"At least I got some sleep."
First, police let the struck drivers pass the jackknifed tractor trailer.
Then crews were able to haul it away, meaning 95 Southbound could reopen before rush hour really got going.
