3 Hospitalized In Wilmington Fire

WILMINGTON, Del., (CBS) -- Officials say three people were taken to the hospital as firefighters battled a house blaze in Wilmington, Delaware.

Eyewitness News is told crews were called out around 7:27 p.m. Monday for a fire at a home at E. 39th and N. Market Streets.

Officials say the fire reached two alarms at 7:55 p.m.

Crews were able to locate an approximately 52-year-old male resident of the home and freed him from the dwelling, according to New Castle County Paramedics. Officials say he was treated on scene by paramedics for smoke inhalation and burns, and then taken to the Christiana Hospital in critical condition.

Officials say a 54-year-old female from a nearby residence was treated on scene by the paramedics for difficulty breathing and taken to the Wilmington Hospital in stable condition. Officials say a nine-year-old girl, bystander to the scene, was evaluated on the scene by paramedics and refused treatment or transport to the hospital. A fourth patient was taken to the Wilmington Hospital in stable condition, according to officials.

Eyewitness News is told other homes have been exposed to the fire.

The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.
