Family Displaced, Firefighter Collapses After Battling South Philadelphia Blaze

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A family has been displaced and a firefighter suffered injuries Friday while battling an early morning blaze in South Philadelphia.
The fire started at about 5:30 a.m. at a row home in the 1800 block of South Taylor Street. Crews were able to extinguish the fire in about 10 minutes, but the fire moved fast, severely damaging not only the home but several items inside.
The affected family, including two adults and three children, were able to get out of the home unharmed but lost clothes, toys and other valuables. Family members say they will pitch in to make sure the kids have a happy Christmas.
Meanwhile, police say Lt. Mike Brady was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania after collapsing at the scene.
"He passed out after he told one of the other firefighters that he wasn't feeling well," said Deputy Fire Commissioner Ernest Hargett.
Lt. Brady is listed in stable condition at HUP where his family is by his side.
"We are waiting to see the results of all the tests, but at this point in time he is resting comfortably," said Hargett.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
