Fire Under Investigation At Delaware Little League Concession Stand
WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) -- Authorities are investigating a fire that broke out at a Little League concession stand in Wilmington, Delaware.
Members of the Stanton-Newport Little League called it an "unstoppable fire." The calls started going out to families around 4 a.m. Sunday.
"He said, 'We got an emergency, you need to come, the concession stand is done,'" Terrie Brannock said.
Fire engulfed the concession stand, leveling the inside.
"It saddens me, brought a tear to my eye, saddens me to see it in this condition," Teeimus Allen, the league president, said.
Members spent Sunday sizing up the loss.
"We'll have to take it brick by brick, all the metal has to be scrapped out, all the bricks are going to have to go," Allen said.
The equipment -- freezers, grills, fridges -- were destroyed. Investigators don't believe there was anything suspicious about the fire.
The baseball and softball league has a 100-family membership. As of late, money has been tight, we're told.
"It's all gone, it was all gone in the snap of a finger," Allen said.
Bricks and mortar are one thing, but there's no shortage of confidence this little league will rise to the rebuilding challenge.
"We're all joining together, we're going to get through this, get the word. Hopefully, the community will rally around us," Brannock said.
"This is our money-maker for the season, this brings the money into the league."
The cause of the fire has not been determined. The estimated loss is $50,000.
