Final Non-League Game For Penn Saturday
By Matt Leon
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Penn Quakers will be home on Saturday, welcoming the Fordham Rams to Franklin Field.
The Quakers are 1-2 on the season after dropping their Ivy League opener last week to Dartmouth, 41-20, at Franklin Field.
"The game plan was very similar to Villanova (a 24-13 Penn win on 9/24)," Penn head coach Ray Priore tells KYW Newsradio. "It was to keep the ball out of their offense's hands with (Dartmouth quarterback) Dayln Williams, who is a talented young man. We didn't do that early. We got behind and at that point and time we were scratching and clawing to get back in the game."
Listen to the entire interview with Penn's Ray Priore:
Williams put on a show for the Big Green, completing an incredible 23 of 25 passes for 336 yards and four scores. He also rushed for 73 yards and two more touchdowns.
Penn starting quarterback Alek Torgersen completed 7 of 10 passes and rushed for a touchdown before leaving the game with an injury. His status for Saturday will be determined as the week progresses, but Priore says his backup came in and handled himself well against Dartmouth.
"Andrew Lisa came in off the bench in relief and did a really good job," Priore says. "Which really goes to show you that with good, proper execution of our offensive scheme that he can move the football and our kids gained a lot of confidence with Andrew in the second half."
Lisa, a senior, completed 15 of 21 passes for 126 yards and two touchdowns.
Fordham will bring a 4-1 record into Franklin Field on Saturday. The Rams rolled past Lafayette last time out, 35-7.
"Coach (Joe) Moorhead has done a great job with the program," Priore says. "Obviously, they are in the Patriot League with scholarships, they've done a great job of finding athletes that are real, real special. They have a tailback that is phenomenal (sophomore Chase Edmonds), a transfer from Marshall (junior Kevin Anderson) at the quarterback position, defense that runs well to the football. So we will, once again, be challenged with a real, real good Patriot League team."
Edmonds has rushed for 654 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 6.8 yards per carry. Anderson has completed 61.5 percent of his passes for 1,226 yards and 13 scores with just three interceptions. They are two key cogs on an offense that rolls up more than 35 points per game this season.
In their first meeting with a Patriot League team, in their season opener, the Quakers lost to Lehigh 41-21.
Last season, the Quakers lost to Fordham 60-22 up in New York.
Penn and Fordham will kickoff at 1:00pm on Saturday.
