Film On Local Group That Combines Beer, Running In The Spotlight
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A movie documenting a local running group that uses beer as a motivator for its runners is getting a lot of attention.
The film gained so much attention, in fact, they had a special showing Sunday evening at Johnny Brenda's.
The Fishtown Beer Runners combine responsible running and responsible drinking.
"Research says that if you drink a beer after a long run it won't hurt you," says David April, founder of The Fishtown Beer Runners. "If you drink it in moderate amounts you'll be happier."
April says the film, which won the best local feature award at the Philadelphia Film Festival, shows how to use beer to bring in new runners:
"The film is really about the transformative power of running and how running has helped people get over whatever it is they are going through in their life."
April says The Fishtown Beer Runners do about three to five miles every Thursday night:
"We're not a drinking club, we're a running club."
Runs are at 7 p.m. The start location is 2346 E. Susquehanna Avenue in Fishtown
