Feeling Like Summer
By Justin Drabick
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A large ridge in the jet stream along with sunshine and southwesterly winds helped surge temperatures into the mid 80s today, well above the average high of 73 degrees. Today was also Philadelphia's warmest day since early October 2013. Temperatures stay warm tonight with lows dropping only into the mid 60s with an isolated shower or storm possible. The warm air mass remains in place for Tuesday but a frontal boundary will be nearby, bringing more clouds with a shower or storm possible. Highs on Tuesday will be a little cooler than today in the upper 70s.
As the front passes later on Tuesday, easterly winds will develop and bring in cooler air off the ocean. Expect more clouds around on Wednesday with a shower possible and highs back near average in the low 70s.
The front will then move back north as a warm front on Thursday. High temperatures climb back up to near 80 degrees with a scattered shower or storm chance. The best chance for steadier rain will arrive on Friday, as a cold front slides through the Delaware Valley, with highs near 70. Drier weather returns later on Friday into the weekend.
