Feds Step Up To Help Produce Wind Power Down The Shore

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) - The push for alternative energy sources in New Jersey gets a $47-million boost from Uncle Sam. It's a four year grant to put windmills just off the coast.
Papers were signed Thursday on the Steel Pier in Atlantic City that will start a demonstration project -- one of three. The others are planned off the shores of Virginia and Oregon.
New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez suggests that, taken to its full potential, wind could provide electricity to a million homes in the Garden State:
"I think that, having an "all of the above" energy policy gives us the type of energy independence we want. But clean energy is really the energy of the future."
A Cape May energy company's plan for putting windmills in state waters has been held up in a dispute with utility regulators.
This project will be located in waters controlled by the feds.
