Fed Ex Braced For Its Biggest Shipping Day Ever
By John Ostapkovich
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Today was projected to be the busiest day ever for the package delivery service Federal Express, but that hardly means the holiday shipping season is over.
It was all hands on deck-the-halls for this, the Super Bowl of shipping, when an estimated 19 million packages were expected to move through Fedex delivery networks.
The firm brought in thousands of seasonal workers, including 1,100 in our area, to share the load. And Fedex spokesman Chris Stanley has some advice if you need to ship now.
"Get a new box when you are shipping," he tells KYW Newsradio. "Get something that's strong and sturdy. Make sure you have wrapped it properly. Make sure that everything is squared-off inside the box and all the air is filled with bubblewrap or another filler of some sort. Make sure you know the name and full address and phone number of where your package is headed. And lastly," he advises, "think about where it's going to end up."
Meaning, the front porch or the garage? Can it be left with a neighbor who's home? After all, you don't want your well-traveled gifts to miss their delivery date or, worse yet, go walking off just as they arrive.
