FDA Planning To Make Several Changes To Food Labels

By Lynne Adkins

PHILADELPHIA (CBS)--Reading food labels could soon be a lot easier.

For the first time in two decades, the FDA is planning to make changes to food labels.

Karen Sudders, a dietician at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Philadelphia says there are several possible changes.

"One of the main things that has been discussed about these changes is the focus on calories and serving sizes instead of total fat. Another discussion point is the possibility of them changing from grams to a more standard measurement system."

She would like to see a different label for sugar content and to note how much whole grain is contained in the product.
