FDA Approves Quick And Easy Flu Test

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Just as the number of cases of the flu continues to climb, the Food and Drug Administration has just approved a faster, more accurate test that can be used in your local doctor's office.
With just a swab inside your nose, employees in the doctor's office now will be able to use a new test to determine if you have the flu. The whole process will only take 15 minutes.
FDA microbiologist Dr. Sally Hojvat says it's quick and easy and doesn't require technical expertise to administer:
"There'll be a faster result and probably more accurate result that have been available to patients coming into a doctor's office who would be tested with the older type."
She says this will allow patients to get on antiviral medication sooner, which means you'll feel better in no time.
