Father Dies After Being Robbed, Shot In Front Of S. Philadelphia Home
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A 22-year-old South Philadelphia father has died after being shot in the head on the front steps of his home near 19th and Reed Streets. in South Philadelphia by a robber trying to take his wallet.
Police say, Hugo Mwagala was attacked as he walked home from a nearby store. Neighbors say the hard-working contractor, who came here from Africa with his family 8 years ago, lived in the home with his 14-month-old daughter and her mother.
In a sad twist, the victim, police say, had recently rebuilt the front steps of his home, hoping to improve it for his family. It was on those steps that Mwagala was shot around 2:30 a.m. He later died of his wound in a local hospital.
Police say they have little information about the shooter who disappeared into the early morning darkness. They are asking anyone with information to call South Detective Division at 215-686-3013/3014.
