Penn Steps Up Security After Fatal Shooting By Police

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The University of Pennsylvania has stepped up security following a deadly shooting on campus early Sunday morning.

No students were injured, but an investigation is underway into the shooting involving University of Pennsylvania police and two carjacking suspects.

Investigators say the trouble started at about 3:30 a.m. with a carjacking west of the campus, near 50th and Race Streets. A short time later, police spotted the suspects near 42nd and Locust, tried to stop them, but they took off.

A few blocks away, police say, two men jumped from the car, ran behind a library and that's when there was an exchange of gunfire involving at least one Unniversity of Pennsylvania police officer.

One of the suspects was fatally wounded. The second was taken into custody.

The incident remains under investigation.
