Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash In Bucks County Caught On Tape

MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) - Twenty-three-year old John Rearick was walking home on New Falls Road when he was hit by a car.
It was caught on surveillance video that is being sent to the FBI so it can be enhanced and police can get a license plate number.
On the surveillance video, you can see the driver pull next to Rearick, who was still alive at that point. Then, a few seconds later, the driver decides to leave.
The victim's family is pleading for help.
"I miss my son. He didn't deserve to be hit and just left there," John's mom Sharon Rearick said.
Sharon, along with other family members, are devastated.
The hit-and-run happened 12:21 Sunday morning, July 22, right across the street from Penn Jersey Auto Store. Rearick had just left a bar nearby.
After being on life support for six days, the 23-year-old died on Saturday as a result of severe head trauma. He never regained consciousness after being struck.
"It's gut wrenching to think anybody would leave somebody like that," Middletown Twp. Police Lt. Kenneth Mellus said.
Mellus says the driver left behind key clues that could lead to an arrest.
"We know the vehicle is red because we did recover paint chips and pieces of the vehicle at the scene," he said.
The Rearicks are hoping the driver comes clean or somebody turns the driver in.
"I just want them to help me. Not that it is going to bring him back, but it will give us a little bit of closure," said Sharon.
The car is described as a red sedan, possibly a Cadillac or another GM vehicle. If anyone knows who the driver is they are being asked to contact the Middletown Twp. Police Department immediately.
