Driver Killed In Port Richmond Crash

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - One person is dead after a two car crash in Philadelphia's Port Richmond neighborhood. Police say alcohol may have played a role.

The accident happened just after 11 p.m. on Tuesday along the 3400 block of Richmond Street near Schiller Street.

Investigators say both cars were heading north on Richmond when one vehicle rear-ended the other. The car that was hit smashed into a utility pole and flipped on its roof. The 48-year-old driver was ejected from his car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the other driver who rear-ended him kept going. He also slammed into a utility pole and was thrown from his vehicle. He's at Temple University Hospital where police say he's being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Police suspect he may have been under the influence of alcohol.

A passenger in his car was also injured. He is in critical but stable condition.

Investigators say DUI charges are pending the results of a blood test.

The identity of the victim was not immediately released.

The deadly crash remains under police investigation.
