2 Dead, 1 Injured In Crash On Roosevelt Boulevard
PHILADELPHIA (CBS)--Part of the Roosevelt Blvd. was closed Friday morning, for a scene that is all too familiar: a fatal crash.
"Like in the past year we have had so many deaths," said Edgar Rincon of Feltonville.
Two women were killed at the crash near D Street. They were passengers in a tan colored Ford Expedition.
The crash happened a little before 9 a.m. when police say an SUV swerved for some reason and slammed into a parked tractor trailers.
"I was always concerned about accidents here near F and C, and it's always because of that. Cars to park in the boulevard, why?" said Rincon.
People who live near the Boulevard are saddened by the fatal crash but not surprised.
While Rincon takes issue with the city allowing cars to park along the busy boulevard, people like Edwin Rivera add are concerned with drivers, along the Roosevelt Boulevard, constantly ignoring the 40 mph speed limit.
"They don't see the speed limit. You see cars flying here, especially at night at 50 to 60 miles per hour. When they lose control it's too late," said Rivera who live in Feltonville.
Friday morning's fatal crash comes just days after injury attorneys released a study on the 150 most dangerous intersections in Philadelphia.
About a dozen of the intersections on that list are along the Roosevelt Blvd.
"Something needs to be done, definitely needs to be done," added Rivera.
Police at the scene say right now their focus is on determining what caused this particular crash.
"We are seeking out witnesses, and trying to do everything we can to get to the root of this," said Lieutenant Greg Brown with the Philadelphia Police Department.
The victims of this crash are identified as 40-year-old Marshaye Flowers-Hardy and 25-year-old Asia Holland.
Both died at the scene.
The man driving the SUV was taken to the hospital. He's in stable condition with a broken right hip.
