Fatal Accident Prompts Warning From State Police

A fatal crash on Northbound I-95 near the Bridge Street exit, Friday morning, could have been prevented if a disabled vehicle had pulled off the road instead of sitting in traffic, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

KYW's Michelle Durham reports the accident happened after a woman stopped in the left lane of the highway because she had a flat tire.

"The disabled vehicle was being hooked onto a tow truck. Traffic was slowed to a stop and the motorcycle operator crashed into a vehicle in front of him at a high rate of speed," said Trooper Danea Durham.

She said the motorcycle driver, Jose Alamo Torres of Philadelphia, later died at Hahnemann Hospital.

"This is just an example of something horrific that can happen. That's why we try to tell people all the time you move over to the shoulder of the roadway. Even if you are being pulled over by a police officer, you don't just stop in the lane you are travelling in," Trooper Durham said.

No charges will be brought against the driver in this case.
