Victim ID'd In Fatal Crash On I-95 In Delaware
NEWARK, Del. (AP) — Delaware State Police say a Maryland man was killed when a tractor trailer and a box truck collided on Interstate 95 in Newark.
It happened about 3:20 a.m. Thursday. Troopers say 35-year-old Abubaker Jamal of Columbus, Ohio, was driving a tractor trailer northbound when he made an illegal U-turn at an emergency crossover to travel south.
Authorities say the tractor trailer went into the path of a box truck traveling south. The box truck, driven by 30-year-old Abodunrin Akinyanju of Greenbelt, Md., hit the rear of the tractor trailer, and continued moving with its left side hitting the road.
Troopers say the cargo box area of the truck separated from the frame of the vehicle before the truck came to a stop.
Akinyanju was pronounced dead at the scene.
