Fashion Tastes, Economy Changing The Look Of Area Brides
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Years ago, wedding dresses were mostly only available at specialty bridal salons. But now an increasing number of retailers are getting into the business.
Brides-to-be have many more options than they once did when it comes to dresses.
"You can find wedding dresses everywhere these days, including Costco," says Sheila Corbett, a bridal consultant and owner of Elegant Events.
She says styles have changed, too: many brides don't want puffy sleeves, puffy skirts, or excessive beading, opting instead for something simpler.
"You no longer have brides that are 23 years old anymore," she says. "You've got your more mature brides, you've got your second marriages, and those brides don't want again the traditional dress. They want something a little bit more relaxed and something that they feel comfortable wearing."
The economy is also playing a part, as brides look to save money and retailers look to make money.
