Fans of iPad 2 Begin Lining Up Early In NJ and Pennsylvania To Be The First Owners
CHERRY HILL, N.J. (CBS) - Apple's new "iPad 2" goes on sale at 5 PM today, and those who want to be the first on their block to have one have been lining up at area Apple computer stores.
Sitting in a beach chair today in front of the Apple store inside the Cherry Hill Mall, Tracy Stanley of the Fishtown section of Philadelphia was first in line.
She got to the mall at 6:30 this morning, she says.
"The doors outside were open, so we came in and just stood here and waited. Then they put the barriers up at 8:00," she says. She's getting an iPad for her daughter.
Third in line was William Murray of Mount Holly, NJ.
"My wife has a nickname for me, and that's 'Gadgetman,' " he admits. "I love the latest and greatest, I love technology. I work in the technology field and I love my toys."
Twenty-year-old Thomas (no last name given) of Burlington County, NJ was keeping himself busy in line by watching television shows on his original iPad. He says he wants to edit video on the iPad 2 and thinks it's worth every penny he's going to shell out.
"It starts at $500 and goes up to $829 for the device," he notes. Some of those getting the higher priced devices and accessories expect to spend about $1,000.
One woman in line said she was going to pick up two -- and they weren't even for her. She had offered to get them for friends.
