Family Of Fallen Officer Files Civil Suit
By Tony Hanson
BENSALEM, Pa. (CBS) - The widow of a Philadelphia police officer killed by an alleged drunk driver last month has now filed a civil suit.
48-year-old highway patrol officer Brian Lorenzo was killed when his motorcycle was hit by a driver going the wrong way on I-95 (see related story).
The civil action suit is filed on behalf of the family of Officer Lorenzo and it alleges the driver of the car, John Leck, was very drunk, and visibly drunk, when he was served multiple drinks at a T.G.I. Friday's in Bensalem in the hours before the fatal crash.
Attorney James Binns say Leck and others are named and the list could grow.
"T.G.I. Friday's and their parent company and whatever other establishments that pervade liquor that night to Mr. Leck are responsible for all of the damages that have befallen the Lorenzo family."
Binns describes this as a multi-million dollar lawsuit.
Leck has been charged with murder and other offenses and faces a hearing next month.
The parent company of T.G.I. Friday's has issued this statement: "We join the community in the profound grief regarding the death of Officer Brian Lorenzo. Our heartfelt thoughts remain with his family and colleagues, and we continue to work with state and local law enforcement on their ongoing investigation. As this matter is now in litigation, it is inappropriate for us to discuss specifics."
