Family, Friends Say Goodbye To Little Boy Killed In Southwest Philly Hit-and-Run
By Dan Wing
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Funeral services were held in Southwest Philadelphia Saturday for four-year old Latiff Wilson, who was killed in a hit-and-run accident Monday.
Family, friends and community members gathered at Greater Bible Way Temple on North 63rd Street for an emotional, yet uplifting service to honor the memory of young Latiff. They praised his bubbly energy and playful spirit, and
Relative Micah Berkley noted that he left an impact on all that knew him:
"It's funny how youth can do that. You know, we almost live vicariously through our kids now, and we live through (Latiff). He brought a lot of smiles not only to us, but to everybody around us."
Latiff's grandmother, Monique Lockwood, pleaded for the driver that struck and killed the child to surrender to police:
"Please turn yourself in. Stop trying to negotiate. It was an accident. You shouldn't have kept going, shouldn't have kept moving, but it is what it is, you know? Let's be done with this."
Lockwood also says the support of the community has been overwhelming:
"I just want to say thank you to the neighbors, and the neighborhood. I know you've went through a lot, and I've seen a lot, and I just want to say thank you for being there for my grandson."
The service wrapped up with dozens of balloons being released into the sky as the family told Latiff one final time that they loved him.
