Family Dog Killed In Delaware County House Fire

DARBY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) – Three people, including a firefighter, suffered minor injuries in an early morning house fire in Delaware County Friday. Sadly, a family pet did not survive.
The fire started at about 1:30 a.m. inside a two-story twin home in the 500 block of W. Oak Lane Avenue in Darby Township.
When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and flames billowing from inside the home. The fire was quickly placed under control.
Fire officials say there were four family members and two dogs inside the home when the fire started. Several family members were able to escape by climbing out the second-story front bedroom and onto the neighbor's roof. They went through the neighbor's window and out of their house.
Two family members were taken to a local hospital where they were treated for smoke inhalation and released. Unfortunately, one of the two dogs was killed in the fire.
A firefighter suffered a minor chest injury while moving a ladder.
A family member who spoke with Eyewitness News believes a dryer may have started the fire, but the official cause remains under investigation.
The family member credits smoke alarms for alerting them of the fire and enabling them to escape.
The home is a complete loss.
The fire remains under investigation.
