Fallen War Vets Honored At Annual Memorial Day Parade In Bridesburg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Several streets in the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia were lined with people and filled with marchers for Monday's annual Memorial Day Parade.
Dozens of parading groups moved up Richmond Street, and then in a loop through the neighborhood, some like ROTC and veterans, with a direct military theme, others like Boy Scouts and Mummers highlighting the soul of town and country.
Lots of people from the neighborhood come out to watch, even bringing lawn chairs to take a load off their feet.
"Just to come down to the parade, see my father, bring my kids down, see things around here," said Rick from Bensalem. "It's a good time."
Rick says he feels it's important to bring his kids to this event.
"I want them to understand why we have Memorial Day," he said, "and that's to salute the Veterans and the wars and things that go on."
The weather couldn't have been better, but the event always has a touch of the somber, saluting those whose sacrifice meant they couldn't be there.
