Fallen Millville Police Officer Remembered
MILLVILLE, N.J. (CBS) -- A Millville, New Jersey police officer who was killed in a crash while on duty was laid to rest Friday.
A funeral was held Friday afternoon for fallen Millville Police Officer Christopher Reeves. The funeral was followed by a procession to the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
Hundreds paid their final respects to the first Millville, New Jersey police officer to die in the line of duty.
"Here's a terrible tragedy and I think its important for all of us to have the family in their thoughts and prayers and just as importantly to remind ourselves how much they're putting their lives on the line for us," said New Jersey Congressman Frank LoBiondo.
Congressman LoBiondo was among other servicemen and women who came from all over New Jersey to say their final goodbyes.
"We're just a big family here, this hurts, said Peter Coccaro, a retired Vineland City police officer."
Officer Reeves died when his cruiser was struck by a car that was allegedly fleeing from police in the early morning hours of July 8th. (See Related Story).
Suspect Timothy Seidel is facing numerous charges in connection to the deadly crash. Investigators say Seidel hit a police car and was trying to elude police when the crash with Reeves' cruiser occurred.
Acting New Jersey Governor Kim Guadagno has ordered all flags to be flown at half-staff to honor Officer Reeves.
Officer Reeves was an eight-year veteran of the force. His wife, Susan Reeves, is also a Millville police officer.
Reeves was a 1991 graduate of Millville High School and joined the department in 2004.
