Extensive Road Work Begins In Center City

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Drivers, be warned. Center City will be even more clogged than usual, especially after 7 p.m. for the next six weeks, as crews scrape and then pave seven miles of streets in the heart of town.
Streets commissioner Clarena Tolson says work will start on 10th Street, north of Market to about Callowhill, but between now and September 28th, most of the numbered streets between 2nd and 30th, in an area roughly between Spring Garden and South, will close overnight at some point so they can be repaved.
"We are trying to minimize the impact to motorists, pedestrians and also mindful there are residents in this area, as well."
Tolson warns residents should watch for temporary "No Parking" signs but says if their car does get towed, they can call their local police district to find out where it was moved to.
