Experts See Delaware Valley Fuel Prices Headed Into $4 Range
By Paul Kurtz
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Gasoline prices have reached $4.00 per gallon in California, and other states are approaching that level.
Meanwhile, the cost of a fill-up is getting higher in our area as well.
The average fuel price in Philadelphia has reached $3.70 a gallon as the result of a 17-cent spike over the last week.
In South Jersey, the price has soared 21 cents in the last week, to an average of $3.57.
Jenny Robinson, of AAA Midatlantic, says there are a number of factors involved.
"One of them is tensions in the Middle East," she says, "the unrest in Egypt. And then there have been refinery outages and maintenance issues in a few different states and in Canada, and even with some planned outages at the Philadelphia Energy Solutions refinery, which is formerly known as Sunoco."
Robinson expects to see prices rise about another ten cents this summer.
The last time gasoline hit $4.00 a gallon in this area was in May 2011.
