Expert: Weight Loss Likely To Improve Sex Life For Women
By Lynne Adkins
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Local researchers have found one more reason for women to undergo bariatric surgery.
Women are a lot happier in the bedroom following bariatric surgery according to Dr. David Sarwer, professor of psychology in the Perelman School of Medicine at the Univeristy of Pennsylvania:
"As early as one year after surgery, when patients had lost about 30% of their weight," he said, "we saw significant improvements in self reports of sexual behavior and sexual satisfaction as well as improvements in the reproductive hormones that we associate with sexual behavior, such as testosterone."
Dr. Sarwer says the study showed that women who were the most dis-satisfied with their sex life prior to surgery, admitted to the most satisfaction following the weight loss.
