Exhibition Turns Germantown House Into Colored Girls Museum

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A new Fringe Fest Production is transforming a Germantown house into a museum that pays homage to women of color.
The Colored Girls Museum converts a home into a living, breathing memorial to the many experiences of Black women.
"Nobody in my view is going to give colored girls as opportunity to be as big as we are except us," Vashti DuBois is the brain behind it all.
The exhibition includes 30 artists and a handful of performers. The show accommodates 50 people who will tour the house, which features rooms converted into exhibits by the artists.
Each showcases murals, paintings, sculptures and the curated objects - like hair brushes, irons, photographs and some performers who tell the story of dozens of Black women.
"It's about honoring our history, our story and most importantly one another," DuBois says.
The Colored Girls Museum opens tonight and runs through Sunday.
